I think it’s hard to match the kind of unparalleled joy that emoting can bring in Fortnite. Whether it’s hitting the griddy as your favorite cartoon character or, more recently, dancing it up to Chappell Roan, emotes have long been a core part of what it’s like to experience Fortnite. Emotes aren’t going anywhere, but the developers have introduced one fun twist as part of the new Chapter 6 Season 1 map: There’s a special spot that will literally eliminate your character if you emote close to it.
Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 1: Hunters introduces a new map and loot pool inspired by Japan. You can go fight Godzilla, and then wall jump and ledge jump around new locations as if you’re some sort of anime ninja. In addition to all that, the development team created one small but devious feature in the map. There is now a spot where the game will punish you big time for emoting.
All you need to do is go to the mountain that’s just northwest of Foxy Floodgate. Head about halfway down the hill, where you’ll see a sign and some traffic barriers stationed near a scenic overlook. (You’ll know you’re in the right place because there’s also a sprite shrine right nearby.) The sign shows a small silhouette of a Fortnite character dancing with a red slash across it. If you emote by it, your character will suddenly be yeeted into oblivion and die. You can watch a video of it in action below.
The more things change, the more they stay the same. Fortnite has always been a goofy game. I personally still can’t get over the fact that some characters from series like Dragon Ball and Avatar: The Last Airbender can wear Nikes now. So it’s a delight to see little gags like this continue to be a part of the game.
